Another newbie (formerly of Texas)

What's up everybody?
Newbie here with no Welding experience. Just started taking classes at the local tech college. Taking Intro to Welding, MIG Welding, & Blueprint Reading. After this semester I'll have my Gas Metal Arc Certificate and plan to continue on and complete the entire Diploma program.

For now I suppose you could say I'm doing it as a hobby. I currently do tech support work making pretty good money, but hate the suit and tie sitting behind a desk corporate environment, so hopefully in the near future I'll be where I need to be to change careers and go full-time into Welding. Other than that, just here to learn everything I can. Also, trying to figure out how to get a nice little shop setup at home so I can practice on my own.

West Hell...Thats not too far from where I'm at, just off of 400 near N. Forsyth.

Made my first welds last Thur in class. Just ran a couple beads, then welded an angle bracket and piece of metal together, just oxy-acetylene. It was AWESOME! I have class again tomorrow night, I can't wait to get back in there and start welding again!

Hopefully soon I should have some extra money to buy a welder. Trying to decide what to get first, just an oxy-acetylene torch outfit, or go straight for a MIG and/or TIG welder...

Hello Everyone,

Certainly not a welder by professional standards, but I am (was) licensed and certified I-CAR with HSS and HSLA steels and major collision repair. I have also completed a few small projects....but really wanted to mingle with the experts:) .

Hope to watch, learn and eventually contribute.
