Folks,
If you haven't already noticed, an old friend has become a new moderator here at WeldingWeb.com
Smithboy has nearly 1,000 posts since joining this community a year ago, and every one of them has been friendly and relevant. Many have even been helpful. ;)
Smithboy loves in Georgia and is an educator by day. In his role as a moderator, Smithboy will serve as an official presence to help manage threads, answer questions, resolve problems and pretty much anything else that we make up as we go along.
Don't hesitate to give him a warm hello.

Just to let folks know...I am new to the arena of moderation. That means I have a quite a bit of learning I need to do about the tasks and technical details of the job. So, keep in mind that patience is a virtue and forgiveness is divine. I am not immune to mistakes. I make them...ALOT, and have no problem fessing up to it. I am not averse to criticism. So, if you feel I am not doing a good job or could do a better job or have done something wrong, don't hesitate to let me know. I appreciate thoughtful criticism, suggestions, and corrections. I can't change the rules, but I can change me.
As I see it, my job here is:
1) to help members have a good time discussing welding and tangentially related stuff,
2) to encourage everyone to use the forum for its intended purpose (education, fellowship, and entertainment)
3) to help address obvious abuses of the site or its members,
4) to encourage everyone to remain reasonably civil even in times of heated disagreement,
5) to try to make sure that, even in times of disagreement, folks don't take things personally and at the end of the day, these same folks continue to value their time here,
and finally,
6) to help keep the owners of the board from being arrested or sued into bankruptcy for what we say or do on the board (note, I say WE...I am in there too),
I feel that if I am able to do these things well, members will just enjoy their time here and will not even realize I am doing anything new or different. My only agenda here is to have a good time and to learn a few new tricks and help others with similar goals. Soooo, now that I have sufficiently lowered all your expectations of me, maybe I can meet or exceed them.
I should also mention, that I can be a bit wordy...I am working on that one.:D

Question.......when you are in your official capacity as moderator.........do you have to wear a cape?
;) :p  Sorry, a weak moment. I may need to eat.

Actually, I am going to go for the pro wrestler (circa 1975) look. Do you recall Mister Wrestling #2? White mask, with black outlines around the mouth and eyes...quite a bit overweight and with very fashionable matching white trunks and boots.....and NO SHIRT! I have found that capes don't allow me to fully exploit the visual of my frightningly hairy back or the jigglyness I tend to display when running to the rescue of weldors in distress. I hope folks at work can learn to cope.
Now don't y'all go making fun, I know 95% of you guys out there look just like that too.
Oh, and thanks for the congrats and enthusiasm and all...hopefully I will, at some point, deserve it.

You wear that modesty very well, which, while unjustified, is illustrative of why you are perfect for the role.

Gee, Smithboy, now that you're a moderator, I hope you don't get too heavy with me when I say the occasional unkind thing about your President.

Scott,
When politicians start to do my bidding, I might start doing theirs. Otherwise...they are all on their own.
Besides, if the Prez. wants to rebut anything you say, he is welcome to join us...as long as he can also contribute something to the discussion about welding...else, he will just have to take his lumps in silence.
Now, that's not to say others will not take issue...I guess that's where I might get some practice.

Smithboy as an educator will now be on call to help others build our Kingdoms of Wealth to pass on to our Kids.
My thoughts on welding and Kingdom buildind are a result of many years of working in the welding industry and re-investing for our future children to take over what we have started and forums like this that answer welding questions.
SmithBoy is now the "Official High Council Educator" for this forum and we all look forward to his Kingdom Building practicies that benifit us all.

WTF!!!
Oh well,
Smithboy has been an educator for much longer than any of us here on WW have been on WW
However,
as a welding educator on WW hes been also doing this much longer.
Nothing has changed really but a title.
For those who know Smith they know of an individual who has in a sense been a moderator for a long time.
A guy who tries to set the pace of professionalism, and many folks look up to.
If he sees actions he finds inappropriate he discretely and without prejudice or bias reminds that individual of the fault. He has a title now yes he does. But nothing has truely changed. Same smithboy he always was. Now hes only has a title and slighty more control if control is necessary.
One can hope that form of control is not necessary, but if it becomes those who know trust it will be performed without prejudice or bias swiftly and efficently.:gunsfirin :gunsfirin :gunsfirin
