I am trying to wire a two wire (red, black and green) 220V water well pump
to my generator with a NEMA L14-30 recepticle. What do I do with the neutral post on the male L14-30 plug?
The generator is mounted on a mover's dolly isolating it from the ground, so
should I connect the generator's existing ground wire that is bolted to the
metal frame to a copper ground post hammered into the ground?
Thanks for your help,
Don

Assuming the Genset has this 14-30 on it and you are going to the male end of a home made cord then to a female 14-30 on the other end of the cord then to a 14-30 male off the pump wiring. That would be a typical installation, female to male to female to male on and on.

In you case you are interested in the X, Y & G lugs, two hots the the ground. Follow that scheme and ignore the W which is neutral/common. I'm saying this based on the assumption that this is dedicated to the 230v pump only.

As far as bonding the generator shell to the well casing, that's a secondary safety connection that you may or may not utilize, up to you.
