Saw this on Kajijijijijijijijijij the other day and was wondering if anyone has used one before?
Worth the money?

Many of those old powered hack-saws were built like tanks and work really well. For $90 I'd buy it :D

With any luck it will be in my garage tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies. It looked pretty solid and cool. I don't know if I really need it but I own lots of things I don't really need...

I saw hulltechs using one in their shop onboard the USS Hepburn circa 1986. Looked like a really cool tool to have, looked like it could cut larger material than similar sized band saws. I heard somewhere that they don't eat teeth as quickly , but , as I have not used one myself, I cannot say. I saw plans for one on a vintage shop projects website. I would snap that sucker up. I have a serious tool fetish.

looks like a nice older machine. we had one on my last ship and some other commands ive been to but larger more beefier modles. they made nice straight cuts if used right. just be carfull when cutting your angle iron, if it is not placed right in the vice it wll grab and snap the blade. good price, id get it.

Yea, I had one, paid $35 for it and thought i got ripped off. sold it for $35 too..... blades were not real ez to find, (e-bay only place) and i broke blades left and right, i doubt i got more than two cuts off a blade, may be my fault but i still did not like it........

Any thing that makes cutting easier is good for me. Looks like its worth the money, but like any mechanical moving parts needs to be kept well taking care of. Most important keep cutting liquid on what ever your cutting the whole time its cutting.
never seen one before, pretty cool. id spend 90 on one too :)

A guy I know uses one in one of the iron mines up here. They actually prefer it for cutting pipe over a bandsaw for some reason. He said he never has problems ordering the blades but they do go through a lot of them. What he says usually causes them to break is when someone drops the blade into the work rather than lowering it really gently but the broken blades are really quick and easy to replace.

Those are very good machines. I would buy one if I saw one.

I see quite a few out here, mostly in the $30 - $50 range...I would buy em for my ebay store but shipping weight is a real killer, the things are pretty heavy. The one i bought took me and a helper to carry it out to my PU, (we are whimpes though).........

Had one of those back in high school. It had a real heavy blade on it, and when it broke we would make fillet knives out of them in our metal shop class. Try doing that now in school.

If you get it balanced so that the weight on the blade is right, have the pitman moving down and back to pull the blade down and back, and have things nice and tight, not slopping all over, it will cut nice and steady and the blades will last a long time.
The things that kill blades are slop in the frame, too few teeth in the work, and too much weight on the blade.
Looks just right, not too heavy.
