Chicago Electric purchases include replacement brushes

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I purchased a Hammer Drill and a Recipricating saw for my personal shop. Both were Chicago Electric and both shipped with replacement brushes for the motors. Maybe that means they expect them to burn up fast?

Well last weekend, deep in a project, those extra brushes saved me alot of time. The tool was a 4 1/2 in grinder I think I paid $8.99 for and always considered it for what it was worth -- but I was pushing it hard and it died. It was about a year old and it really wouldn't have bothered me to just toss it. But there I was half done and the choice was to put everything away and make a 20 mile one-way run into town. I remembered those brushes, did a bit of searching until I found them and popped them in -- and back to work I went. Maybe spent 10 minutes searching for and then replacing them. Maybe HF tools are cheap, but I'm hoping for another year of service until it hits the trash bin.

FWIW... I bought one of those cheap chop saws about 3 years ago.

First set of brushes lasted about a dozen cuts. Took them out and "sprung" the springs and they lasted for a few more cuts. Put the replacements in and they are still working!:rolleyes:

I just got one of those saws and I'm glad to hear one lasted you three years. That first set of brushes probably got too hot and the spring lost it's temper. That has happened to me before on other saws when I pushed down too hard and made the motor slow a little too much and work too hard.
