I need to evenly space 2 x 2 x 1/4" square tube in an opening. Seven pieces in fact. The space is 55" tall. The tubing is 8' in length(not sure the length matters) I want to have an equal space between each piece. I know there is a simple means of doing this but I'll be damned if I can figure it out. Go....(please)

Multiply the width of the spacers with the number of spacers and subtract that from 55.
divide 55 by the number of spaces, that will give you the distance between each 2x2

my math says, with 2" pipe at the top and bottom you have 5 spaces. 14" of that space will be pipe, 41" with be open space. 41" divided by 5 spaces is 8.2 inches between posts.

You're welcome

This will take into account if the 2x2's are on the ends or if there is a space from the end to the first 2x2. You just need to factor in the # of spaces.

For this particular application...the less the space the better. I'm building a Knocking Table or Knocking Bin for a slaughter house that will obviously end a cows life and they are quite feisty when confined.... I guess. Although scots math works as well, just not for this application.

Ok check that. I messed up the first time just a bit should have been 6 spaces.

Now if we can assume space outside of the first rung then I get 7 bars 8 gaps at 5 (1/8)" between...

Careful....Tube is a lot different than pipe.
Tube is + or - .002 on the OD.

PIPE can be .025 larger OR smaller on the OD.
