I was at my local airgas today looking at a powermax 30 on the shelf and it all looked new and the guy kept telling me it is brand new. I noticed that the tip was alittle burnt and you could tell it was used for a very little amount. Only the tip was used, everything else on it was band new and no scratches or anything. The guy told me it came in like that from hypertherm because hypertherm hand test each unit before it leaves their factory. Is this true? I guess this would be a good question for Jim Colt. Also he gave me a price of $1,149 out the door including taxes. Sound fair?
Thanks
Shane

Im sure it was mentioned somewhere that they test each unit.

When i brought my 45 it had a tip that was used( very little ). I used that tip for a year!

Every hand torch system is tested by cutting a piece of metal....this is after the (up to 24 hour) full duty cycle burn in (performed on every Powermax unit). The burn in test has the system on a resistive load bank operating at full duty cycle for a specified period of time....this is to minimize the chance of having an "infant mortality" issue with a component inside the unit. Before the burn in test the power supply is bench tested for proper electrical output. Before the bench test...almost every single internal component (PC Boards, front panel assemby, etc.) go through their own individual test process.

This is part of Hypertherm's commitment to quality....it cost a bit more to perform these levels of testing, but it ensures that the unit will work when it comes out of the box, and that it will continue to work for many years. If in NH...look me up and I'll provide a facility tour....you can see the production and testing of all of our plasma products live!

So....the drawback is...you get a nozzle with a minute or so of cut time on it when you buy a new Hypertherm!

And...the price for the Powermax30 sounds good....the suggested list is over $1250.00.

Looks like a decent price. My LWS isnt too good about discounts. Only one in the area and they have supply contracts with all of the iron ore mines so they arent too worried about a guy that only comes in a couple times a year. I would get it, I like to buy local if they are within reason on their prices and it helps quite a bit with getting things serviced if you have problems.
