Hello,
Must say great forum.
I recently purchased an old Miller 330 A/BP from GOV auction. Its hooked up and works but it makes a lot of noise. Its NOT fan noise its the type of noise the tansformers make but it seems aweful loud.
Im wondering how yours sounds?
Thanks,
-William

I have had one for over 30 years. Still has the same fan motor in it. The fan has always made some noise, but no transformer noise.

You aren't talking about the high frequency unit are you? Does it sound like a electrical bug zapper set on continuous? Turn off the high frequency and see if the sound goes away.

Yes its one of those high frequency units, and yes it dose sound like that. But as far as i know it is off..... well the switch is off at least. Its not a constant buzz it veries a bit.
thanks for the fast replies!!

Turn off the lights and turn on the welder without connecting the leads. See if you can see a short somewhere. I wonder if the switch for HF might have a problem.

I ended up taking it to a cert tec to have it looked at and it turns out it was what the manual calls a contactor. Its def more quiet.

Looks like a relay. What was the price, and the part number, just in case I might need one. Thanks

Well, all it is is a monster relay. The correct miller replacement was like $600 but the tech ordered me one for a newer model, ended up being $200.
