hobart tig ?

i have used the old GOLD hobart tigs and they are great, but know they only have one tig machine in there line up.....what is this machine compairable to ? :jester:

The current Hobart TIG is the Tigmate, which is an repackaged Econotig. In my opinion, ITW has all but decided that TIG is a professional process, and that does not fit within their marketing strategy for Hobart.

I think Rock's description one time was that the Hobart line was for the home/hobbies/light duty user and the Miller line was for the industrial type user, which explains why they don't make alot of the Hobart machines any more, TIG machines for example. From looking at ebay from time to time I see alot of different Hobart machines that they don't market any more.

i read somewhere that hobart is only allowed to make welders under 250 amps or less as part of them being bought out by another company... has anyone else heard this ?

crucible, I've heard the same thing...something to do with non- competition for some period of time and then the Hobart line may be expanded. I don't know if there is any validity to this, perhaps some of the more knowledgeable guys may shed some light here.

ITW bought miller and hobart and a couple of other welding equipment types. Look at the back of the miller catalog and you'll see who all ITW owns, the list is large ...

yea, ROCK told me that on the "other" site back when i asked about parts availibility for my MICROWIRE/LINEARII engine driven machine. only i dont think it has to go with "non-compete" clausing, i think that THERMAL DYNAMICS bought the larger line of HOBART equip. if i remember right,[and i dont, always] ITW was`nt ALLOWED to buy the whole HOBART line in the bankruptcy hearings! mebbe a monopoly thing?

One more time KIDS, when ITW bought Hibart Lincoln went crying to the goburmunt that ITW was becoming monopolistic, and Lincoln couldn't compete fairly.
ITW had to sell off part of Hobart, and ITW then created HoFart witch they consider to be a hobby grade welder. Just another step in the whoring of American Manufacturing.
Thermal took on what was the Hobart industrial equipment lines.
Hobart was the world leader in developing Plasma welding, and since the splitup, that line of equipment no longer is being made by anybody.

A real bit of enlightenment comes from reading ITWs 80/20 phylosophy. 80% of all profit is made from 20% of the customers, so unless you represent big profit to ITW, only minimal attention will be paid to your problem.
