I just received a Giant plasma cutter and I wanted to make sure it is wired correctly. I'm 99% sure this is okay, but I don't want to burn down the house. :)

I don't know how to post a picture, so please click on the link. Thanks.

Assuming it is a 240V single-phase unit, and that is a NEMA 6-50P plug, and that the center top wire (which looks green with a stripe) is your grounding wire inside the machine, then everything looks right.
Is "Giant" tha brand name, or is there a reason why you didn't give us a make/model?
And, this is also assuming you are in the US, or have a similar power system.

I bought a Mitec Cut40 off Ebay and the wiring colors looked exactly like your picture. Brown & Blue were the hot leads and the green w/ the yellow strip was the neutral.
BTW, for those looking for a cheap plasma cutter, so far I'm pleased with the Cut40's performance on steel (up to 1/4"). It doesn't do as well on similar thickness aluminum.

Giant is the brand, and yes all of your assumptions are correct. Sorry, I really should have been much more specific.
Thanks!

The green with the yellow stripe is NOT the neutral, it is a SAFETY GROUND.
I can't look at the pictures because they wont load, but the "Third Prong" or prong shaped like a letter "D" on a NEMA 6-50P is for the safety ground, also known as equipment ground.

I know this is quite a resurrection, but....
how and why are guys wiring these welders with 50 amp plugs? The wire that comes on the machine looks to be #12. The 6-50 needs #10 minimum. You can't even secure the ground in the lugs since the wire is so small. In any case the wire is way too small for 50 amps.
How many amps do the CUT50 actually pull on a 230v circuit?

The term "safety ground" is a DIYer term, proper discription would be Equipment Grounding Conductor, Grounding conductor, or British English ,"Earthing". BTW, the color code for a international cord: Brown = Hot, Blue = neutral, green w/ a yellow stripe is grounding conductor. (Not the same as the US.):D
