Smith Torch ?'s

Hi,

I have an old Smith torch setup thats been in my dads basement for over 30 years. He bought it used in the 60's but never tried it.

Here's whats stamped on them if you could give me an idea of the age and if they are rebuildable that would be great.

Torch Body 58170 with MW 203 and MW 209 Tips
Cutting Torch MC 509 with a MC 1 1/2-6 Tip

That torch doesn't look all that different from one I bought a couple years back. About all that MIGHT need rebuilding would be to replace O rings that might have dried out.
That can generally be done by walking into a O ring supply house and picking up a dozen O rings for a couple bucks. Do NOT use those POS O rings from Harbour Flotsum on a torch.

Should be rebuildable. We have a Smith, same vintage, different model, still get tips and parts. Things to note: the seats for the tips are graphite rings, not O rings. They crack. DO NOT over tighten the tips, especially on the cuttting head. Just snug them. The nuts are hex-type, but DO NOT use a wrench to tighten. Only use a wrenght to loosen them if they bind. There are O rings elsewhere. The valves seem to hold up well if not gorillaed. Get flashback arrestors. Very important. Also, I would recommend getting the chart for tip-sie/pressure setting.
