View Full Version : overhead cutting-hot metal in ear, nowwhat?
Yes, did overhead cutting without ear plugs.
ENT doctor didn't have much to say about hearing loss ,ringing and sore jaw joint. Happened 12 days ago now whats me to pay for a CAT scan even though I heard there is not much they do.
Would like to hear from others with a like story and what was the outcome.

Had it happen to me several times while welding.... laying down on my side hit a rust pocket or something and POP.... felt the ball land on my ear and roll along and drop right in...... damn that hurt! Burned a hole in the ear drum. It eventually heeled... yes I did see a Doctor but I didn't get a CT. After that I had custom ear plugs made that filter the noise not just reduce the db's, I told them I needed to be able to stay aware of what was going on around me due to the fact that my work environment was dangerous and a reduction in what I could hear could be deadly. Do I still wear them? No Like anything they irratated my ear canal after a while and I couldn't wear them all day. I only use them when I lay down or if I think it may happen again.
Good luck... And no I don't believe I suffered any type of hearing loss after the ear drum heeled.

hi, I ALWAYS turn my Kromer [hat] so the brim covers my ear. A old timer told me that many years ago and now I AM THE OLD TIMER ! Turn hat and button top shirt button. I hate when that happens! OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny you should say that but I had Steve Vai's Fire Garden in mine one time while I was welding... well it was the first time I was listening to the CD and one of the tunes begins with the buzzing of an insect, no music just BBBBUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...... well I thought a bee had flown into my ear so I started beat myself on the side of the head.... threw my lid... I forgot all about the headphones, I tweaked. Yup.... feel free to laugh along.
So I take it you're a Portnoy fan..... maybe some Mark Zonder..... Bozio
Should I bring my rig along :cool2: for a little after school R&R
EDIT: OOPS I thought I was in Zaps class thread

Wasn't there was it? :p
Never had a doctor recommend a skan to any of my men after getting weld dropped in their ears. I actually got a piece out of my ear this week that has been in there for about a month. Hurt like hell getting in there and yes , I forgot to wear my ear plugs.

i had a small piece land in my ear while welding, but it luckily didn't get to my eardrum. now i wear a woolie hat pulled down over my ears when i weld. probably not the best safety device, but it works for me. keeps the noggin warm on cold days too :D
