Hi,
I am looking at getting a new mig welder (lincoln 175) but in order to use it I would have to run it off an extension cord- around 100-150ft. I am just curious if this will work, or will it lose to much amperage and not work correctly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Here is a great post about your exact question. Event the same welder I believe.

There is a great calculator in there that will help you find your answer.

I'm planning on buying the same exact welder and am facing the same situation as you are! I am planning on buying a 100' 10ga 115V cord, cutting the ends off and replacing them with 220V plugs. I've spent too much time reading about this and I think it should work just fine. Now, I'm just waiting on my tax return to get here! I'm expecting the direct deposit on Feb 2nd! I also have a 20% off coupon to use at Home Depot! My wife is going to buy some new couches and a digital camera with her share of the return. I'm going to drop about $1,500 at the Home Depot! It's going to be a fun fun day! I'm going to get the 175HD, the extension cord, the O/A Port-A-Torch kit, gloves, helmet, respirator, 4.5" angle grinder, cutoff saw, miter saw, sawzall, extra wire and accessories for my welder, and a fridge and some flooring for my school bus conversion project! I LOVE tax return time! Having two kids is great too. We get a big fat return! :cool2:

How in the world have you done your tax return already? I haven't even gotten my w-2's or 1099's yet.

I'm in the Air Force. They post our W-2's on a website we have access to. I got my W-2's Saturday and had my taxes E-filed about 30 minutes later. I also get to E-file for free! I only wait on one W-2 and a 1099DIV! Less than two weeks until my return gets here! :cool2:
