Hello fellow welders,

I recently purchased the above unit equipped with an ONAN engine. I had the same model unit about 12 years ago when I sold it ( still kicking myself for that one). Anyway the new unit starts right up and idles down. When I strike a bead it increases rpm as designed and welds perfectly. When I stop welding the unit remains at high RPM. I was told by the previous owner that there was a bad circuit on the board that needed to be replaced. I called the Miller dealer in Austin but all I got was "Why dont you come in and see if we can sell you a new unit". Thanks but no thanks I'd rather repair this one.
Anybody ever have this problem and any suggestions on doing the repair?

Thanks,
Living in the tall cotton down in Texas.

Not sure if you found the problem... but if you download the owners manual for it... they have a pretty good schematic of that idle board.

does it weld on both ac and dc? That sounds typical of the 'lets just sell you a new machine'. How about miller directly..? I've seen the number posted, but can't remember where.

Good luck, let us know

jh1102,

I don't know if you can do electronics, but Miller will most likely send you a schematic/diagram for free, just goto millerwelds.com and send a email to support. I have no Idea what the problem might be but with a diagram I'm sure we could help you out.

Agree 100 percent with the Schematic suggestion. It is a Common system on many generators and shouldn't consitst of more than 2 to 4 parts. Just get out the literature and the voltmeter and check resistance on the resistors, and continuity on the coil and rectifier if applicable.
Good Luck
