Free Home-Made Extension Cords- Some Restrictions Apply
Hello,
At work in our warehouse we have well over a dozen hanging extension cords for large equipment. We use the building just for a warehouse, but it was previously used by a cabinet manufacturer.
There are a ton of hanging cords with plugs on them about 15-20 foot long. On the receptacles they say 20A 250V, and 20A 480V 30 mainly.
If someone would like to save some money and have electrical experience they are free to take them down.
I am located in Santa Fe Springs (in between Los Angeles and Anaheim CA)

And now for the restrictions.
-I want all of them removed (the guys keep getting caught up on them)
-The power is hot, you will need to find the breaker, and then cap off the wires.
-Must not be afraid of heights, they are all in the air, some things I can move so you can work off a ladder, some things you will need to stand on the product.
-I want a few, every 3-4 you do I would like one.
-You will need to buy the other end of the cord for your cords.
-It will need to be done on the weekends or evenings during the week.

They are a nuisance, and not worth paying for an electrician to do this, and I don't know when I will have the free time.

Thanks

Not worth paying an electrician for?

Wait till a nonelectrician gets killed doing electrical work and then see where your priorities are. If I was you I'd ziptie them up and out of the way until you can have them removed by a professional. 480v in a commercial building is quite different than the average diy'er home wiring.

We have them tied off, but the guys still complain about having them get in the way. So what I mean is that listening to them complain once in a while because they lifted the forklift to high, is not worth paying money for an electrician to remove them.

I am just offering these to someone (if they know how to remove them) if they have a need for them.
I am re-relocating in 2 months, so if the next guy wants to spend the budget on an electrician he can, I will spend my budget on new equipment.

If I was closer Id get them. If I were you id reconsider your offer, if someone has to "stand" on the product I would think that if they fall or get injured in anyway the liability is on you. Just looking out for you. Oh and 480V 3phase isnt something to d&*k around with.

It probably wouldn't be worth someones time for the "free" cords. But that's just my opinion.

After all, most electricians have access to all the cords they need.

Around here the copper thieves will take them down for you hot. After the ice storms the thieves were out posing as linemen and stealing downed power lines right off the poles.

Power lines aren't all copper or all aluminum. I guess they're dumber than they look!

THats some nice cord you could get...

probably if you pay an electrician you could get away with some cash and some cords too...

Here AWG 8 wire runs for about 160 bucks per 100 m.

Maybe you should reconsider paying a nice electrician...
