Ignoring how incredibly dangerous that video looks, what role does the spaghetti play?

Wouldn't it just be a lot easier to run the oxygen inside of steel electrical conduit stuffed with aluminum foil? Seems like that would work better, burn hotter, and probably not be any less safe than spaghetti.

As far as connecting the lance to the oxygen without using any regulators, check valves, or flashback arrestors---that sounds more dangerous than the lance. Is it?
