its an older unit but if you run it through its paces and it welds good see if he will take $1250 cash for it.

it's even got a foot pedal. i recently sold a 350 lx, ten years old for 3k. it came with nothing. deal looks good, i wouldn't try beating him up too much.

I'm going to offer an old chevy 4x4 truck and some cash. I really havent been able to find much info on this welder. Does anyone have experience with this machine or know what kind of adjustments it has?

That unit looks to be made between Jan1998 and July1998.

I also does not look to be PowerFactorCorrected. A retrofit can be had, but will cost more than the $1500 asking price. I would defininately ask about that.

They are solid machines even though a bit power hungry.

Here is a link to the manual:

I used a Syncrowave 351 in a spar shop welding mostly aluminum. It was a beast of a welder, lot's of power.

Shovelon is right about the power consumption. If you have the input power, it would be a great deal.

We have one in the plant, a good machine. Make sure the HF works, ours toasted a board and it was $$$ to replace.

I'd grab it at that price. Power Factor will help a bit on overall current draw, but personally I wouldn't care. I'd ask around to see if it will even run off a 50 Amp plug (yeah, maybe not full power, but who actually TIGs at 400Amps?).

Personally I think the 350 class Syncrowaves are a better deal than the 250class because the 350s usually had all the bells and whisles built in (timers, pulse, meters etc).

As for the age of the machine, if its in good working condition now, it might just outlast you.

With the cooler, torch, pedal etc. This one is a no brainer. Just bring a hoist to load it on your truck. 500lbs easy. (get Miller's manual to double check the weight).

Re: Miller syncrowave 351 worth it?

Final test date was 1-28-98 shipped with in a week or two from miller.
This one is new enough it already has the all metal switch. The first ones came out with a white plastic switch. After a while they melt and the and the welder losses output.
Miller has a pricey kit to upgrade the older welders. Your doesn't need it.
just find a way to make sure it all works before buying it. Take gas with you if you have to.
