If you never saw it before..
Started out as flat stock on the floor..
I made the head flanges and the carb mounts..

Louie (car owner sig) did 60% of the machining..
I did the welding and the rest..
NO prints...NO nothing to go by..

    And yes it works..

    Hey Zap,
Man, those are some superb welds.... That's why I always call TIG the "Artform" of the welding processes. To have those deleted should result in someone getting a taste of "caning"!!! You gotta frame those pics..... Denny

No thermostat for that intake, huh? It does appear to be welded in, or is that so it doesn't leak?

    Thermostat?
    In a drag race engine?

    No..
    Not needed..
Besides the only thing with water in it is the manifold and the heads..
The blocks are filled within 1/2" of the decks with "Hard Blok" filler to make the bottom ends solid and that greatly helps keeping crankshafts where they belong..

    Thank You!

    It took about a week..
I welded the runners and then Louie machined the angles..

Once we had all the parts we used a blown up 428 block with some dummy heads on it for the starting point..

Bolted the flanges down and started welding..
The manifold was around 10? hrs total but it was done from start to finish without stopping..
Let the whole thing cool overnite and all was well
    No extra machining required..

Zap why did you weave those welds instead of doing multipass? It seems that a weave typically puts more heat into the material.

No particular reason other than it looks better than multipal stringers..

    Sorry..
We were not that advanced back then..
Digital cameras were for the rich and famous...

I did'nt take pics of the build..
There was no weldingweb or much of anything like this back then..

There might be a spare runner or 2 still over Louies..???
Next time I go over I'll look...

Zap- Would you mind explaining how you do the weave pattern at the base of the runner where it meets the head flange, and why you use it here and not in some of the other areas.

    Thanks
