How to use Miller welding helmet bag!!???

This is driving me nuts!! Maybe I'm the only one, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what Miller's idea was with the Digital Elite helmet bag! How do you tighten the drawstrings on this goofy thing? I end up pulling each of them a few times before I find a couple that will draw it closed-----it seems like a real lame design for a company like Miller! I'm about to cut these things, pull them out, and run a single cord through.

(If you have one, you'll know what I'm talking about!)

    Thanks!

Pull the strings that go from the top of the bag to the bottom. Got to be smarter than what you're working with

I've got one. You're right, the bag is a goofy design. Drives me nuts too. I think I stuffed it into a drawer somewhere. It's more hassle to use than it's worth.

Threw mine away as soon as I got it. I converted a Anvil flight case for a Marshall amp head. Holds the helmet, extra lens's,torch tip cleaners, picks, gloves and sleeves. Oh yah, cheaters!

It almost appears that the bag was designed foe another purpose and Miller got them cheap.

    MIGMARK,
I agree with you. It seems a simple bag with a draw string would be MUCH better. I'm about to throw mine away, too.

Miller - is there an Owner's Manual for the bag?

the bag works surprisingly well once you figure it out... the trick is that you don't draw all the excess slack from just one side or the other like you would expect too, instead you draw from both sides and it winds up creating something similar to a backpack... one string goes to one side and the other goes to the other side... you can then wear it just like a backpack too if you're into that sort of thing

    This is hilarious.
That said, its still a bag to protect your expensive hood from get the cr@p knocked out of it more than it will while in use anyway.

Use it to put on your head when you go to a game and your team is having a bad year.

I've been using a planet eclipse mask bag from my paintball days for years. When miller started offering them, I was pretty sure they copied me.

I cut the strings off and shove the hood in it and hang it on the regulator valve.
The bag that comes with the 9100 Hornell hood is a much nicer bag but then we are talking about helmet BAGS

Get a Tillman bag, halfway down the page, $11, has only ONE drawstring. Well made.

Use that other one for a lunch bag or trash bag.

here is how it works, draw strings on both sides, it's really not so bad once you get the hang of it

Re: How to use Miller welding helmet bag!!???

    Hey, TurboCad,
I agree if you just want to put it in the bag and throw it around, but like VWGUY3 said, I want to hang it on the reg or a hook on my welder cart and it doesn't work for that. It is hard to put the helmet in and out with it hanging. I thought it would be great to protect my expensive helmet, but turns out to be too much trouble to use. A drawstring bag, with a loop for hanging it would be much better, for my use at least.

Re: How to use Miller welding helmet bag!!???

    I'm busting up in laughter...

I just got a new Miller Dig Elite and felt like a 4yr old with this new helmet bag. Told my wife it looked like it was made to be a back pack of some sort, which she too started laughing.

It's the 3rd welding helmet I have, that comes with this type of helmet bag. I ride dirt bikes too, and have gotten a similar bag with a new riding helmet.

My new process to utilize the helmet bag is to remove all the strings and just use it as a dust cover. Surely I'm not going to carry it around as a back pack. Nor am I going to stuff it with other junk (as it'll just weigh it down and make it more useless). Even then, it's a flimsy helmet cover and doesn't offer much of anything.

Even Eastwood offers the same sort of bag; http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-wel...elmet-bag.html

Instead, for my two Digital Elites and one Digital...
I used one of these; http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ece-helmet-bag
(they can be found for as little as $7.50ea... but the going rate is $8-$10

Super easy to deal with. Protects as needed. Keeps the shop/garage dust out of the helmet.

The Lincoln Viking. 3350 helmets come with a similar bag. They are unusual yo say the least but as stated earlier the strings should make it a backpack when done correctly
