Get some of this stuff! When I was in sales I would give a customer a free bottle, and the next week they would order a case!

I read that here in another thread and am giving it a try, thats whats in the cylinders.

Its interesting to watch as the two react with the rust. Just make sure to wear gloves with the acetone. It penetrates rite thru the skin and heads to the the liver.

Thats water on top of a thick layer of sludge. Glad its there as it kept the water from eating the crankcase from the inside out.

And this is all there is for engine electrical.
I would say the Fairbanks Morse keyed on / off switch was wired but died and replaced by this more modern hi tech device.

    Re: 1936 SA200 Restoration

Ok thats it for tonight. I will be back at it tomorrow.

Has anyone got any how to's on seperating the Generator from the motor? The armeture bearing has a grease cup so I am wondering if it is retained with a set screw or press fitt.

So far I have not had any issue with difficult fastners but then I am at the greasey end of things.

    Re: 1936 SA200 Restoration

Those old nuts and bolts were made of real first time steel, not this recycled crap we have now. I will gladly disassemble a 70 to 90 year old machine before I try a 10 to 20 year old one.
I'm working a couple of 1929's right now.
Anyways, peruse the redpower tractor website for parts for that Waukesha as it was on the early Farmall F12's.
Don't bother trying to contact Waukesha engine as the last guy at the factory that new anything about the old engines retired 15 years ago.

Thanks for the info on the Red Power Forum for the Waukesha. Wether by design or accident I to would much rather work on the old rather than the new. Of course outlasting the competition long ago ment making things that would last for years. Today its measured in weeks or day's.

Ok todays progress was limited due to the needs of family, dad can we go out driving today. Friends who needed help with fallen trees and my neighbors who got thier backhoe stuck in the mud. All but 1 rear tire was burried out of site. Allright so I did have fun with the kids and friends and a speciall delight in digging the neighbor out with my own machine.

Today was spent assesing the generator end of the works. I did progress along slowly, not wanting to wreck anything that wasnt already in need of replacement. all disasembly was done by hand with no pneumatics or hot wrenchs.

first was to remove the main brush cover and see what varmints may have tried to move in.

Not to bad compared to a few I have seen. appears to be a mouse nest. The greatest problem with these nests is the urine. It can be pretty bad and it is corrosive as heck,

    Re: 1936 SA200 Restoration

looking at the armeture shaft nut I noticed this pin. As there is no lock washer or tab over washer it appeard to be some sort of "lock" to keep the nut from backing off. Carefully I pried it away from the shaft thread. it does go thru to the back side of the nut. Also there is a notch in the nut above the location of the pin. Why?
