I like these puppies. Big, grey and run forever, well, obviously not FOREVER, but...a really long time. Lots of old farmers use them for both welding and power. They usually look like crap cause they really get abused and neglected, but they crank right up and run like a sewing machine. I saw one in a farmer's estate auction. Had 3500 hours on the meter and looked like it had been stored in a cess pool. I thought I might get it for a hundred or two because of its looks. When it cranked on the first touch of the switch, bidding started at $300 and was up to $700 before the auctioneer even looked at me. It's a classic welder.

one in good shape will keep its value very well, much better than Elvis Commerative Plates.

I've piped many a miles with them , and tell all theres no comparing with anything on the market , even the new ones , they started putting a GM motor in em know , they say because of the epa. If you got an old Lincoln hang onto it , you can always rebuild it . cause the new 200's with the GM motor weld for crap !

I love the old '47 SAE300 we have, welds like it's brand new but it don't look pretty. Grandpaw bought it from a farmer he knew back when my Dad was in high school and rebuilt the engine, he said it never made any oil smoke and it still doesn't.

    sa 200 nicknames and lingo

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here. I have one of these old sa200's, It it says on panel it's a SA-200 F163, code 6792, ser. 639048. I looked it up at lincoln and down loaded manual, but still not clear on year. I'm curious what is a red face or shorthood model. Thanks for any info. Charlie

Charlie, you can email the model, code, and serial numbers to Lincoln Electric( www.lincolnelectric.com ) They have all the records that go back to the early 1900's I think.

If anyone is interested in a 1940s sa-200 welder with a hercules engine that runs like a top but needs work on the generator (it doesnt weld) needs parts. email me at smassey@northernhealth.org. Im in michigan. I want the free space more than I want money for it. When it welded, it welded great.

I have the list that matches your serial number to the year of manufacture for old Lincolns on my website. Engine drives, motor drives and transformers.

    vhuerta,

I trust you do realize you responded to an almost 1 year old post. Highly unlikely the unit is still available and richardu hasn't been around since 4-6-09.

Just the same, welcome to the forum.
