Just pick out something you like and take a measurement around your head where your eyeglasses rest on your ears. If you want a low crown, take a measurement across the top of your head at the same location. Make sure the measurement is accurate, if you want it to fit right.

Well, I was going to quit after I finished up Showdog's hats, but that World Series game went on so long I decided I might as well make one more. Go 'Stros!!!

    OK, dumb question time.
I am not a hat wearer, but should get one for welding.
So what is a low crown vs a deep crown?
    Thanks,
    Russ

    Re: Welding Hats

You want a low crown if you wear your hat with the bill straight back and you like the hat snug on top of your head.

A deep crown if you wear it with the bill over one ear to keep the sparks out. For overhead welding. You need more room on top if you wear it like that, or the hat will slide around too much, won't want to stay in one place. The downside to this is that the hat doesn't conform to the top of your head, you will have a little slack on top.

    Re: Welding Hats

Tim, I have a question for you. I have a full hood that goes all the way around my neck and has a couple buttons on the front of the neck to close it up. It’s essentially a balaclava for welding. I got it from a guy up in Dutch Harbor a few years ago. I broke it out last week when it got cold out and I was wondering if you could do something like that for me as this one has a couple holes in it and could fit a little better.

In all honesty, the only things I know how to sew are things I learned out of necessity, like making these hats and patching holes in my welding clothes. Anything else you would be better off trying to find somebody that really knows how to sew for real.

Thanks Tim , that’s what I’m looking for, mine is split down the center below the chin and closes with a couple buttons so you don’t have to pull it over your noggin. I wish that they were made in the cool prints you use, but I haven’t found any. Maybe I’ll send you mine when the weather warms up and you can reverse engineer a pattern.

I'm liking the shallow version. I can wrestle the harness a bit to line up with the cheater lenses, still it isn't bunching between me and the harness. I love it!
