Simple fusion welding with no filler metal is a great way to get the feel of. Takes time for sure.

I'm looking for a way to MIG weld aluminum with the Rebel 215 and still take advantage of sMIG function. So I'm thinking of using a dedicated MIG gun with a teflon liner and a knurled wire feed roller. A bonus is I also don't have to bother with turning the gas on and off manually.
Is this crazy or doable? Will one type of MIG gun work better than another?

Kind of a crappy gun on that 215. Might want to find a 45 degree gooseneck too. U groove drive rolls are optimum and really are needed. Knurled will chew up you wire. Any real gun with a tweco power pin , teflon liner and a 45 degree neck and only 10' long will out perform what you have. Sadly I don't think the Infamous Rebel has a U groove option. You will also have to cut your amphenol off of the Rebel gun and splice it onto the new gun. The standard guns only have a 4 socket amphenol.

Not True.. ESAB sent me a Tweco 25' Spray Master and the plug didn't fit.. They sent me this Adapter and Guess what... It fit's my Lincoln Magnum 100L gun and the Tweco Gun.. This opens up a lot of opportunities as far as Gun selections. I'm using the Lincoln Magnum Gun because it's 12' long and uses standard consumables.Name: Adapter Plug.jpg

Nice to see that they now have an adapter. Thoughtful.. I always got the pins and amphenols and made my own. The pins are fragile and easy to ruin. This will take care of that..

    Kudos to ESAB tech support.
I sent them an email this morning about 8:30 on the above. About 90 minutes later they called me to discuss my request.
FYI - the Rebel 215 does support sMIG even with the spool gun.
But if you want to use a dedicated MIG gun for aluminum ESAB provided the following info:
P/N for the 10ft 140 amp Mig gun with the 8pin connector is 10171320, Teflon liner 14001031
P/N for the 10ft 200 amp Mig gun with the 4pin connector is 10201111, Teflon liner 14201003. Will have to change the connector to 8 pin - no problem.
P/N U groove Aluminum drive rolls is 0367556004
No surprise, the torch with a 12 foot cable is not recommended.

Perfect.. I'm guessing you will want to run 5356 wire for feedabillity but try 4043 too. I'm doubting you can run 3/64 but see what they offer.

Now I'm thinking I should buy the spool gun instead, since sMIG works with it too. But I would be curious to see how well the dedicated MIG would work. Then the devil in my head says why not try both.
The devil always gets me in trouble and makes me poor to boot.

I would like to hear about and see how the Smig spool gun works.

That would be asking a lot from this machine.

About to pull the trigger on one of these. What style connectors are the stick and TIG welding connections? Will my regular tweco quick connects go into this machine?

50mm dinse style connectors. You current accessories should fit no problem

Can't get there from here. You'd need to step up to the 235.

One of these days I will max the mig settings wire feed speed and volts just to see what happens lol.

26 volts and 476 Ipm not in Smig mode. .035 wire. Should be interesting.

I am guessing I would have to buggy and move fast. I will probably try it on 1/4" material. My guess is there will be a lot of spatter.

Picked up a 215ic! Ran every process on it just to try it out. Really impressed with it so far. I did however get the infamous error message on 110v power. Happened with I tried to run it off of a 100' extension cord. Anyone else have this problem? I was stick welding when it happened Name: 20170427_180932.jpg

Did the code clear after you cycled the power or is it still locked?

Cleared after I cycled the power. Tested it in multiple configurations, and only happened when I tried to run the machine on the 100' extension cord. Did it multiple times.

Would a beefier 100' extension cord help?

Just talked to ESAB they said this machine is not designed to run on an extension cord and needs to be plugged directly into the wall in order to run. Also had the audacity to tell me that their isn't a welder on the market that will run on an extension cord...

I have used the 215ic on a 115V, 15A circuit with 100' extension cord. It worked, but had to be kept around 80A. Maybe just anecdotal.
Do you have anything else running on the circuit?

    Re: Esab Rebel 215 owners

Here is the deal on extension cords, most of the stuff you can buy pre-made is pretty cheap copper/copper clad, poorly insulated and not up to par, even the ends suck. I run my Rebels on extension cords I made from 10guage SOOW or SJOOW with good industrial connectors, for 220v my cords are 6 and 8 guage. I have run 200 feet from my generators on my cords with no issues. You can get all this stuff at Lowes or HD, even order on Amazon. It costs a little more but think you will be happy and fix the issue.

Try this when wanting to run a long cord http://www.paigewire.com/pumpWireCal...ookieSupport=1 .
