    sa200 wont strike an arc

hi, I got a '72 sa200 f163 machine, it runs fine but it won't weld. when my grandpa had it we had to flip the high idle switch on manually then it would weld. now flipping the switch doesn't do anything. i tied all the wires from the switch together to see if it was the switch but nothing changed. wondering what i should check next , the soleniod or something in the generator part. GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP!

i would start with checking your brushes, but im sure someone else will chime in as to why it was not idling up to begin with.

probably a stuck brush. I'd take off the exciter cover and make sure both of those little brushes are not stuck in their holders. If one was stuck it won't weld.

    Good luck

Electronic Idler: IM-277-A Gas engine adjustment, timing, carburetor, governor. idler & trouble shooting charts pages 10 & 11.

Check engine rpms and OCV readings at outlet on high idle and at your lead studs on low idle. If rpm is too low it won't strike a arc up. Sounds like you had bad wires and switch maybe gone bad now too.

Do you have Aux power 110 volts DC at the brushes. Get that to work then follow the wiring into the welder from there. You can get a set of diagrams from lincoln by asking them. You will need the code number.

Still no aux power or arc. Does it have to idle up to get aux power?

Trying speeding your idle up on carb first. Could just be that simple if set too slow it won't strike arc or idle up. If old style R57 idler you are suppose to pin it when using auxillary plug unless have a grind eze or updated idler or electronic.
