    Cracker box TIG?

I need some advice. I want to learn to TIG weld. I have a Lincoln 225 AC/DC cracker box and can reverse the polarity. Can I hook up a TIG gun and weld with this machine? Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated.

I rigged up a scratch setup off my stickmate... You sure could with your lincoln, but it wouldnt be too easy to run with amperage taps...

My pipeline welder buddy came over to my house to TIG up some of his stuff. He was scratch starting my Lincoln Precision TIG. I had to about punch him in the head and take the torch out of his hands. LOL

Fortyonethirty, link isn't working for me. Do you know if that thread is still active? I'd really like to read about how to do this with my Miller thunderbolt acdc machine

Gump, that link pointed to search results. I guess that search expired. Here's what I did: go to the advanced search, search for keywords, change search posts to search titles only, search for "scratch start".

I did it again, while I made this post, so as to get the steps right, and here's the link to that one: http://weldingweb.com/search.php?searchid=2066949

LOL I know it wasn't me, but I did the same not long ago. I was over at a friend's house and we welding up some exhaust. I totally missed the peddle thing sitting on the floor. I just saw the torch sitting the craddle and he said it is ready to go. I go to welding and can't for the life of me get it working right when he goes ape about hurting his machine. I didn't see the peddle or the PT. I only saw the bigger stick welder and the torch and assumed that was powering it. He had hid the PT under the bench so it would get "messed up".

Well, I don't know exactly what scratch starting a PT will do to damage it, but I wasn't allowed to weld with it that night. I was relegated to the corner with a dunce cap.

4130, I found it. Thank you for the help. I think I'll bump this up on my priority list over getting my little MIG going.
