    Pajama Day???

A high school student's clothing caught on fire during a welding class. It's not clear from the article, but possibly he was wearing pajamas. I know I'm completely out of touch, but WTF is "Pajama Day"? Do kids really wear pajamas to school on pajama day?

    http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2016/...hool-shriners/

Given the legal environment, this probably spells the end of welding instruction at that school, at least.

The day is observed for the kids too lazy to dress for class in hopes they might attend classes that day. The shop teacher should have sent the student to study hall and given them a bad grade for that day.

Usually it's done as part of spirit week. The teacher should have planned appropriately.

    Re: Pajama Day???

    I read the article.

Like most disasters, it was a 'perfect storm' of factors.

    1) Pajama day. Who knows what the kid was wearing.
    2) Instructor did not notice off-standard (fuzzy?) clothing and lock out the student
    3) Student didn't even consider his clothing more flammable than usual
    4) Student RAN DOWN THE HALL after igniting himself. (What happened to STOP DROP and ROLL!?!?)
    5) Where were fire extinguishers? Other students/instructor use then instead of patting out the flames

    Sheesh!!

OSHA is reviewing. Heads will roll!

    Re: Pajama Day???

I teach welding this year at my new school.

Students are sent out if they refuse to wear proper clothing.

No one has refused yet, but I am very mindful of this issue.

They are told to bring different clothes to leave at school if they need to.

Wearing coveralls over a banned clothing item will not save them from a serious burn.

When I was going to school if you wore pajamas to school (at age 15) you would get your azz kicked.

pajama day sounds like more "pussification" of america.

Agreed. Seeing 12th grade young men wearing full length, one piece, zippered pajamas weirds me out...

    I agree completely!
When my wife and I are out and about, we see some of the younger male types and ask each other "what the heck has happened to men today". When we were younger, a guy wanted to be a man.
A couple weeks ago, we went out for breakfast and saw a teenage boy wearing a yellow jammie jump suit thing. Really? We didn't have any of the crap we see today, but then I'm also 60 now. My how the world has changed. So sad.
Sorry for the rant . . .that's all folks!

Worse than Pj day at school is seeing grown adults out in public in pajamas. This has become some sort of "fashion expression" in the last several years.

"fashion expression"? It's just freeking lazy for the most part. Hell, half the time they don't even comb their hair or brush their teeth when they run around in their jammies.

Some companies have a "Wear your pajamas to work day". Never happened at any place I worked at but many did have a take your kid to work day, which I felt was a good idea so the munchkins appreciated where the money came from.

The wackiest I saw was bring your dog to work day. That happened at only one place, and right after new carpet was installed. After the Fidos pi$$ed and sh!t everywhere it wasn't repeated.

the only pajamas we see at work have orange and black stripes. we also have dogs but if they pay too much attention to you you're in for a deep cavity search.

If I wore my pajamas to work I'd burn to death because everyone would be to busy rolling on the ground laughing or throwing up to put out the flames.

But then again with so little fabric to burn I might be ok.

The expression "Walmart Demographic" is a semi-official category in the field of sociology. It is not considered flattering to be described as a member of that grouping.

    Re: Pajama Day???

    This is funny,

This morning at 9:15am eastern time I went to the store down. The road to buy some off road diesel for a blow heater. Standing in line was a man/kid who looked to be in his early 20s and he was leaning against the counter like he was about to fall asleep. He was waiting on the store clerk to get his breakfast order finished and was counting out change to pay for it....so he finally gets his 3 dollars gathered up and moves out of the way.
I asked for 20 on the diesel and pulled out some cash to pay....the look on this kids face was priceless...I pulled out a pretty decent cash wad and he says " dang, how'd you get that much money?"

I stopped and said " I get up every morning and put my pants and boots on and go to work where I bust my @ss and earn it instead of laying around my house in night clothes"
The store clerks jaw almost hit the counter...priceless looks on both of their faces...and this wad is just petty cash compared to what's in savings.
I wish everyone could have seen it...here's the small wad..less than 2kName: 1481912511645-473872969.jpg
