That's cool, you certainly won't regret getting the 45 over the 30. The 45 will give you the ability to gouge. This means that when , not if you make an inferior weld you can easily remove it . Make sure and do a review on the 45xp when you get it up and running.

Keith has advanced to SUPERVISOR/OWNER . He hired a young guy for $5.00 a hour to cut grass that he charges $20.00 a hour for.

See , I knew He was the real deal !

Does the 45XP have a built in air dryer? Or would I have to but one. And if so, does the dryer take consumables or is it a coalescing filter? Thanks

    Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP?

In 95% of the installations of Powermax systems there is no need whatsoever for additional filtration or moisture / oil separation. The 45 XP has a particulate filter (replaceable element) as well as a coalescing moisture / oil separator with an auto drain. If you have high enough moisture levels to get to the coalescer....then you will see signs of moisture in the clear bowl. Usually you won't.....especially where Keith's system will be used in the relatively low humidity part of the U.S. (CA). I suggest to Keith (and everyone else with a plasma) to drain the compressor tank daily....better yet install an auto drain.

There is so much hype online about how moisture dramatically affects cut quality with a plasma cutter.....and with older technology plasma cutters (as well as with low cost imports that use copies of older technology) this can be true. The latest generations of Hypertherm Powermax units will tolerate trace amounts of moisture (not oil though!). Moisture in compressed air is enhanced by the local humidity, by high duty cycles (compressor getting hot and running continuously) and by allowing the tank to collect water. I doubt that Keith will experience much of any of this! Jim Colt Hypertherm

No problem. Post a pic if you have a chance of that and the rest of your gear so others might be able to help you out.

Like I said, make sure you use the safety gear. Ask anyone on this thread or even on the whole site how many times they have gotten something in their eye, grabbed a hot piece of metal, cut themselves, or breathed a bunch of bad fumes. Start out developing some good safety habits now. Ignore those who ay you need to be a tough guy and not wear safety gear.

Always wear my safety glasses in the shop, ear protection when it gets loud, and a respirator when I use the wire wheel or that abrasive Makita chop saw that spits yummy fiberglass everywhere. I'll post some pics soon.

I had to build a "gang box" about 15 years ago. 30 ft. x 30 ft, 2 stories. But it's full now!
