BOOB, sounded like a 9 MM

I had two of these grinding disc's, the other one is in the trash. Good thing I had the guard on I never use the grinder without it.

Tragic, and luckily you weren't hurt, but I'm still looking for the first part of your title...

I was once hit in the head by an exploding wheel from a surface grinder (don't worry no d-d-d-damage was d-d-d-done). Since then I ALWAYS stand out of the line of fire EVERY time that power up any kind of grinder.

Anybody ever notice that a lot of HF brand stuff (and not just grinding wheels) are marked "1800 RPM max" but users commonly buy it put on machines that run 3450 or 3600 RPM? It's a wonder that a lot more people aren't injured.

LOL. That's what it should say on the label.

Lesson to be learned: ONLY buy QUALITY fiber reinforced grinding wheels (Walter, Metabo, Sait, Norton, etc.), and hammer ring non-fiber-reinforced grinding wheels before using them.

I usually buy all my grinding disc's from Home Depot, after this I think I will shop at welding supply stores ( ie, Air Gas ). I will miss my 10% discount.

That's my question also... too many people don't read. They figure if the device fits it's good to go.

Is Made in China the brand name on those wheels? I consider Harbor Freight to be the lowest quality I'm willing to tolerate, usually for throw away I'm trying out a concept type stuff. Never (knock on wood) had that happen to me, but I don't remove the guards off of my tools that spin material that by nature is designed to disintegrate.

That disc didn't come from Home Depot. At least the ones here don't carry anything that looks like that.

Made in China is not what was wrong. Notic that there is no brand name on the wheel. Only made in china. I can not say that I do not use any consumables made in China but I will say I do not buy any no name stuff from china. They do not need any quality because they have nothing to protect. If they by some long shot are hunted down they just close shop and open the next day under a new name and change the look of thier product and kill more people. Chine is where Japan was in the early 1980's. Some products are very good but others are junk. The first sign is no brand name, the second is a brand name that can not be traced. I would not buy a USA made consumable without a brand name either or from any other country for that matter.

A guy I worked with put a 14" cut off wheel on a 7" air grinder. I told him not to do it and it was almost up to speed when it let go. He had one hell of a bad bruise on his leg, lucky he did not kill himself. He was fired shortly after.
