There is about a 1/4" drop below the top of the frame.

My battery + is grounded here, is that accurate? Right side of the machine to the right of the leads ground bolts? Negative is grounded to the frame near the carb, below it.

Basic electricity (+) positive should not be "grounded" anywhere, unless you have an old British sports car or Dodge with "Positive Earth" but then the (-) negative side is not grounded.
Basically one side of the battery goes to ground the other does not. That it the definition of a short circuit, where the electrons go from one side of the battery to the other without going through the load.

Are your colors still correct on your wires? Where does the yellow wire go?

Honestly man, I'm in school right now so I couldn't tell ya. I just don't want to burn out all my wiring by grounding the battery grounds to the frame in the wrong spots like you told me so I've been thinking on their locations.

Good deal. I hope your friend comes by and helps you get it running soon. By factory wiring that yellow wire goes from alternator to temp. gauge I think unless something is mixed up. Only other yellow on mine goes from PC board to idler switch. We have different engines though and being used, you never really can count on anything without being able to see it or ohm it.

Thank you! I've got a lot more painting to do, obliviously, after I get it running again. Then put on new wires and grounds. I just want to get it running first. Then do a wire restoration, wire by wire.

The signal wire from the start button goes to the R terminal or S terminal on starter solenoid?

The start button connects to the "S" terminal on the solenoid.

The problem has been solved. My wiring has been right this entire time, the problem was the R terminal on my starter has gone bad.

    Re: Lincoln SA-250 project

I'm pretty sure the "R" terminal isn't used in this application the "R" usually goes to a relay or bypasses a ballast resistor for the ignition coil.
You should just have the large cable from the battery positive and the one wire from the starter button to the "S" terminal.
