I wasn't judging you at all, but based on the comments regarding micromanagement and deliberate action to control things is just not us. It never has been. We have worked VERY hard to NOT overmoderate things here, principly because of how rotten it leaves ppl feeling. I can personally attest to that because I've walked away from a couple sites I put some time and effort into because of extreme, heavy handed, constant moderation.

This is a perfect example of why we created the political and religious threads. To allow something MANY sites explicitly do not, and give members the space to speak their minds without having to necessarily control or disallow it entirely. It's like everything in life, there's give and take to it.

It just doesn't sit right with most ppl when you feel the need to constantly and rigidly control every single aspect of a site. We get that. It's always a fine line and the balance isn't always where it needs to be from time to time. Because of the nature of this, mistakes get made once in awhile, or we jump the gun trying to do the "right thing"

I got no issue sending the guy an email, explaining our position and why I did what I did. Like I said before, I'll own it and it is what it is. Never had an issue admitting I could have done something different or made a better decision considering the circumstances.

My whole point of commenting on this to begin with was to explain why it was done and to put at ease those feeling we are engineering everything and potshotting ppl just because we can.

Nothing is further from the truth.

Not directing this at anyone in particular, only stating what I have from my point of view.

    Time for a musical interlude:

I'm a little teapot short and stout,
Here is my handle, here is my spout,
When I get all steamed up hear me shout,
Tip me over and pour me out.

    I'm a clever teapot, yes it's true;
Let me show you what I can do:
I can change my handle to my spout
Just tip me over and pour me out.

    Re: Listen Up.

As always I missed all of the fun.
My thoughts on this are different then others due to my experiences. A few years ago I was mainly a lurker, and then I got banned for trying to give away a book I wrote in the off topic area. I was pissed for a while mainly because I was banned like a robot with no way to reply. As I thought about it I calmed down, and came back. What I learned, and come to appreciate is what this site is about. It is a welding forum with a lot of good information, and knowledgable people. You do have to have a thick skin here, but it's not in a bad way. It's in a way that things used to be a few decades ago, kind of old fashion, and I like it.
I've learned lurking is O.K., and dumb questions are even O.K. especially if you can handle honest answers. What seems to really be appreciated around here is being a participant. Sharing what you have done whether it worked or not. It also doesn't seem to matter if we agree or not with a way to do something as long as it pertains to welding in some way. This is where I think the Moderators do a good job, and I appreciate it. This is a welding forum first and foremost. Everything else is just superficial.
My point is banning isn't that big of a deal if you really want to be apart of this forum.
One thing I would like to see changed on this forum is a LIKE or DISLIKE button on people's comments. They do that on the HVAC-TALK forum, and I really like it.

    Re: Listen Up.

Anyway, thanks Zap for dealing with a thankless job. Soooo...here you go:

    THANK YOU.

I saw the username & shook my head. Whatever. Like most things in life we all have the ability to turn the channel, ignore childish behavior, insults, etc.

Like others said, don't be afraid to use that "ADD TO IGNORE LIST" every no and then I follow a thread and there are one or too of those whom I've ignored, and it just makes the thread that much better

I was thinking of changing my name to "The Welding Authority Teacher", but that was too long, so I could always use an acronym...

The last line in my intro post, is a thank you to whomever is hosting the site. Thank you again, your work is appreciated by me. I agree adherence to structure is a necessity for maintaining a site like this..
