    Business forum?

I see (and have) many questions that revolve around opening, running and maintaining a welding business whether it be shop, mobile or a combination. These threads get spread out over several forums. It would be helpful to have a separate forum for business related questions. Just a thought.

Good suggestion. I'll vote for it if asked.

    Re: Business forum?

I think this would be an awsome addition to the forum ! Everyone in business has questions from time to time about the actual running of a business and associated decisions that have to be made . Especially when doing something new for the first time. Although i vote a definite yes to make it member only access.

I think the idea is a good one *and* a needed one, and I'd probably hang out more there than on most of the other subforums, because my interests lie just as much with the business side of things as with the welding side.

That said, what would be the point of making it members only? Anyone can join WW and then get access, so ....?

The clue. It eludes me. I am disappoint.

To keep someone from just dropping in , making ridiculous comments to throw off someone that might not know better and then disappearing . Kinda like a opportunistic thieve , if a person has to go thru the trouble of signing in , it might make them think a little before throwing out misleading comments . I'm guessing I'm saying it holds a person to a certain degree of "respectability" although thats not the word I'm searching for ?
I would hope for this to be a serious forum when questions are asked , because peoples livelyhoods are at stake with this one and some might take it as a joke, while some might take it as the truth an then proceed to bankrupt themselves. Then again i might be digging way to deep and need to lighten up.

Remember, advice is simply that and its up to you to do what you want and how you want. Many business people use the medium to feed their egos and enjoy seeing others sink almost as much as increasing their own bottom like. In my perspective this approach is self defeating as a healthy economy is required for people to have money to spend which in a round about manner impacts every business and employee out there. Be happy and thankful when you see others do well, that means future benefit for all. But to those who want to crush and step on heads and think your winning anything other than decay? Wake up yourself

    Re: Business forum?

I'd be interested to know the reasoning as well. Must be some slippery slope involved, or extra costs, or a bad actor or two that they're worried about. Seemed logical to me, especially since we have a "Mechanic's Park" subforum (I like it, but it has zero to do with welding) yet no business subforum, but then again I'm a welder so obviously not everything makes sense to me.

Anyhow, I'm thankful for the sticky and we can at least tell people to go read it. I posted some bullet points in it to maybe help get it going. We need to get some links in there to some of the better business threads as people have the time.

His accountant must have called and said you had a great year. Income bumped you up a tax bracket...however we grossly underestimated your quarterly taxes...this is the balance due now.

Or perhaps, a contractor called and said we been paying you too much... Thus for the "privilege" of working for us you can accept 1/2 your invoiced price and keep that rate moving forward or accept the invoiced rate and never work for us again. Of course . since it is a your privilege to work for us you should pay to add us to your insurance policy as a rider, we won't give you deposits, we expect you to put us first, keep rates the same regardless of project. and we will further esteem you with the honor of paying 2 percent per invoice price to cover our check processing.

Or perhaps a contractor was in a hurry. Upon completion of a job within the deadline..he says send photo I need to check with the home owner...3 week later...after I call him it gets installed.

Same contractor . can I get a discount on my personal house. It not ready to measure yet, but I need it in 15 days.

Surely its not one of those scenarios, Phil. Or not.

    Re: Business forum?

Hello Echo Chamber. Two posts today in General Welding that belong in a business subforum. One could've been asked in the sticky, if anyone knew it existed, and the other one wouldn't work in a sticky and needed it's own thread.

Appreciate the sticky but no one's using it. It's buried under other useful threads like how to build a welding cart and how to make your TIG beads look like caulking, or something like that.

Again the question, we have a "Mechanic's Park" subforum which has zero to do with welding, why not a welding business subforum? Lots of business owners here who don't have a ton of time to peruse the whole forum but would give freely of their experience if the questions could be corralled into an easy-to-find forum ....
