    Same here, would buy if closer. Somebody get this; don't let it go for scrap.

    And no demand charge and like to wear ear muffs. IIRC that is a 40 hp electric motor with 4 sets of 3 brushes. It whines worse than a teenager asked to help in the house.

    There’s an SA-800 for sale on C/L over here.
    $500
    Big electric motor/generator type welder.
    Unfortunately I can’t read the data plate in
    the picture. I’d love to know how much that would
    draw at 230 volts.
    What exactly does one do with an 800 amp welding machine?
    Arc/air gouging?
    Sub-arc welding?

    That would be 172 amps @ 230v.
