Had a G9 I picked up cheap and it welded good but the Onan had internal problems I didn't want to $$ into so I sold it. It had CC and CV selections on it also.

My Miller Bobcat 250 has the Onan/cummins/robin/Subaru engine. It was such an embarrassment they changed names several times, but mine at 1500 hours is fine. When I bought it it only worked well with choke out a bit. I promised to tear it apart to see why, never did get around to. It seems to have cleared up.

At $1900 I wouldn't really be considering it.

Officially a <shoulder shrug> for me. Nothing really wrong with the machines that I know of - just seems high priced to me.

I paid $1500 for my 400 hr. '94 bobcat 225nt and although I considered it a little high, it was all I found in quite a while in a reasonable price range.

I've had several onans over the years in tractors chippers, and stump grinders. They generally run good, have all the normal age related failures, charging, carburetor, ignition, etc. Its just parts are expensive, and a little harder to find. They generally have lots of torque but eat a lot of fuel. Does the machine do what you need it to do? that's the most important question. Does it a have CV or is it just DC / CC ?

that how I feel, Dave,, tad too high.. I told the seller that you are based on ebay price which is unreasonable high most cases. in your spot.. 400 hr on a bobcat 225, 1500 bucks is not bad I am looking at the hours and overall condition..having that said.. I have factor in type of engine. that where going get tangle.

The fault wasn't really because it's an Onan. It somehow ate a small screw or nut before I bought it cheap and hammered the piston so bad it egg shaped the bore. I don't use my Hobart G-213 that often but I feel confident it will outlive me with the Wisconsin 2 cylinder engine.

The deciding factor for me would be, how much generator power does it have?
Then it might run other bigger things, if it had 8000 watts or so.
I like the low hours. It makes the motor worth as much as the machine, which I believe is about $1,500 ish.

Well, come on now, she's a classic! You always get better money if it's a classic!

    Onan parts are expensive.

You are certain to find better deals out there, and that seller is having trouble understanding market fundamentals!

Well said crab, yeah, a classic but an expensive motor to maintain. Yup the seller thinks getting a profit. Claims he spent 35 yrs as small engine repair tech. But he got no clue on history of these welders. Certainly a person to avoid .
