Often different manufacturers have different color printing on the rod.
You may just be looking at 2 different brands - and they do often weld different.
Otherwise, you could be remembering references to the red brick color lincoln 6010 vs. the grey color lincoln 6010 5p+
(I kind of like lincoln's red 6010 - not sure why
