Does anyone here know anything about structural repair requirements on a late model GMC truck?

Year makes a big difference. What do you consider late model?

Yeah... are we talking about the 07-09 and maybe later frames that were breaking or the 84-89's or the 93'-97's??? actually I think there were a lot more years in there somewhere... helped fix a few flatbeds 3500's that were broke right in front of the cab, we just bolted in a piece of scab channel

A tree fell on the roof damaging the outer roof frame. The body shop wants to "weld" in a replacement section. And since it is a new/costly truck which I plan on keeping for a long time, I want to be 100% sure that it's done as per GM's guidelines. I searched the Internet and found some information but was hoping that someone on this forum was up to date on the procedures.

contact GM, they have plenty of 800 numbers and get the info straight from the horses mouth on proper ways to repair, the roof rail is not so much a structural repair as the chassis holds the truck together and the body sits on the frame...I would suspect any competent body shop would know the right repair, ask the body shop for documentation showing this is a proper repair from GM...the original post suggested it was a chassis frame repair not a body panel repair...

Not true, just has to be done to gm standards with gm parts. Besides, the important part of the warranty is on mechanical and electrical components. No way they can blame a mechanical breakdown on a roof repair

Not even if water leaks causes electrical issues that could trigger mechanical issues?
