    Fixture/Welding Table

I built this this past year. Way more work than I anticipated, especially the drilling.
I'm impressed with the FleaBay mag drill. 190 holes in 3/4" plate. One single 5/8" annular cutter, still works well but notably worn.Attachment 1686632Attachment 1686633

lastly. tons of shavings. I used large grid paper and punch to mark where to drill. example of basic setup
I used '640lb' capacity wheels so I can drop drive trains onto it and roll them out from under the car using a 2-post lift. Or, dump whatever heavy load onto it I need. Build to 40" height as I'm 6'4" and basic benches are too short, especially with a bad back. I love the table. I just wish I made it slightly larger....

    Sweet...

Any idea what the total investment in it was ?

    How many man hours ?

    Looks like a fun build.

the 3/4" steel plate is 36"x54? i believe it was $450. the frame is 2.5" 3/16". Guessing $100, (EDITED, I forget. I bought other materials at the same time). wheels were $50. Other metal odds/ends not included. mag drill was $275-ish and cutter was $30. Powder coating was $125. I'd guess 40+ hours maybe 50 including multiple design iterations and contemplating hole arrangement. BUT... I cut, prep, weld, and agonize over my design MUCH slower than other people. easily 8-10 hours just working the drill (drill, move adjust, check, etc). The whole table weighs north of 600 pounds, I think.

I use it all the time for all sorts of things.
    everything turned out great except:
-I wish I made the top slight bigger
-there is about 0.030" rolloff of the plate for the last 18" or so at one end. the rest is damn flat. not bad for just basic hot rolled 3/4 from the shop. I can manage with that. I checked to see how much to have it blanchard ground and, um, no. too expensive.

    edit:
it is incredibly flexible, there are so many add-ons I have yet to create. example. Band saw helper for cutting long pieces:

also made a basic rolling stool that works well for me. Found a cast aluminum base while de-cluttering in law's place . added ebay 'tractor' seat and casters.
I've since added height adjust-ability etc.

Awesome table! I would love one of those mag drills but wouldn't use it enough to make up the cost of those puppies. I like how you made the lower shelf smaller for I'm assuming leg room, also like that fresh nicely cooled brew you have setting there Hahahaha Looks like one of Short's brewery labels.

    Re: Fixture/Welding Table

Very nice build. I've been contemplating making a table about that size, but mounting it on top of a half-ton hydraulic lifting cart. Ever since I saw Fireball Tool's video about his hydraulic lift table, I've wanted something similar.

Oh, and love your use of his squares. I picked up his weld-yourself kit a little while ago and absolutely love them. I'm planning getting his cast iron set as well, just gotta wait for some money to come my way! They are probably the most useful tool in my shop.

that's a lot of cutting and fitting on the bench frame but it came out very nice. those rolling stools are much handier than squatting on a milk box.
