    Which gas powered air compressor?

I’ve been avoiding buying a gas powered air compressor for years. So far I’ve been able to get buy using customer supplied air whether from their service trucks or from their shop, but I’ve gotten so busy doing portable work that now it’s just become more of a pain than it’s worth. I’m wanting something big enough to arc gouge with. I’ve been looking at some Kohler and Honda powered units in the 13-14hp range that put out 20+ CFM.

Just wondering what everyone’s experiences were with them around here before pulling the trigger on one.

    Thanks!

I'm kinda liking this one. I emailed them for a shipping quote. I have read many good about many good experiences that people have had with their compressors.

This is the one I have mounted on the neck of my big gooseneck. It’s 29.5 cfm at 175psi. Builds air quick and starts quick. No complaints. Wanting to get a smaller sand blaster to help with projects and think this should run most of them. Will need a cooler or dryer of some sort but like it.

Thanks for the info guys! That vmac looks wicked but I’m afraid the price will be too since you need to request a quote!

I’ll have to check with my local Deere dealership to see what I can get one of those for!

So far in talking to Eaton they’ve been great to deal with. Still waiting on the lead time to have one at my door tho. They thought 1 week but gonna let me know in the morning for sure.

    Thanks again!

I sent in the form for a quote. That’d be perfect in its small size and being light weight but I have a feeling they’re very proud of them. I’ll find out tomorrow!

Thanks for the referral. Do you know anyone that has one??

I wanted more air than the average guy, but didn't want the bulk of a big engine drive 125+ cfm diesel taking up half a truck bed or having to deal with pulling a trailer mounted one. I found a Canadian outfit making 70 cfm screw compressors with V-Twin Hondas. Only 400 lbs and not obnoxious loud. A bit north of $8k. http://www.conxequipment.com/compressors/sc70.html

Re: Which gas powered air compressor?

Thanks for all the input guys!

I had narrowed it down to the John Deere and the Polar Eaton. All said and done it was about a wash on price. I ended up buying the Eaton. They had a blue one in stock that’d match the rest of the equipment and covers on my truck and they have a 5yr warranty vs the JD 2yr. That was really the deciding factor. Plus shipped to me instead of having to drive and get it. The VMAC would’ve been sweet but right now $4800 is out of the question.

Thanks again for all the input!
