    Can you weld forged metal?

I posted in general...and no real answer...

I have a trailer ball mount made out of “ forged” steel/metal. I want to weld a sway bar mounting tab to it....can you weld that material?

Help appreciated....the other dupe thread has more detail in general welding section...

    Thank you for comments...

Nothing really exotic with forged steel. It’s just metal that’s been heated and squished together. You can certainly weld on it.

Forged metal usually welds beautifully. Not a huge amount of experience but what I have come across was easy to get a good weld on it.

Don't you have to use a low hydrogen rod or you run the risk of hydrogen embrittlement? In the oilfields I believe they require that drill stem, which is hardened steel, be welded with 7018 because it is low hydrogen.

Why ask your question in two threads??

Over the years I have figured out some of the more knowledgable folks don’t really go into General thread...so I followed the rules and posted there first...no intel...so I covered my bases in this thread too. Not cool....I have not...and don’t plan on double posting again...

I needed to get my rig up first thing this AM...so I was hoping for some guidance asap...got it and I am good to go...fair question though.
