    POWER I-MIG 230I & spray transfer

    Anyone know if the Power I-MIG 230 can do spray transfer?

    I keep reading it's a function of voltage output above 25 and the specs say it can deliver 25.5 but that's a slim margin.

    Opinions on this machine are welcome.

    Nope, very few welders under 250 amps can spray arc (it's not a function of the amps though, it is just only that machines above 250 amps generally also are designed to output higher voltage to spray). I believe the only Everlast welder that does spray arc comfortably is the 275. Maybe the 251Si can too, just can't remember off the top of my head.

    Otherwise for a sub 250 amp machine to reliably spray arc, you're looking at a welder from a different brand.

    According to the Miller calculator yes. BUT only up to 1/4" material. Over that you run out of voltage.

    Is that a misprint? I thought we were shielding the puddle from Oxygen by using only inert gasses like CO2 and Argon.

    You can use a 90/10 mix on mild steel. I personally use C 18 (82/18) on my welders and spray with it, but I don't have the 230i. The 275 units will do it fine.

    That's a misprint. Should be 98%Argon/2% CO2. That gas with 1/4 steel puts you in the 24-25V range. Anything thicker puts you over your 25.5V.

    Actually, the wire diameter is going to determine when something is going to spray.
