Lincoln Power Mig 255 vs Lincoln Wire Matic 255

Looking for a greater capacity MIG than my 140C. Prefer simpler, less complicated machines that are easier to diagnose, repair, and being simpler, have less to go wrong. Narrowed my choices to these two, unless I should avoid one or the other. The Power MIG came highly recommended by one of our members. Which one is older? Based on first hand experience, which is the more dependable of the two? I assume both are 240 VAC, single phase machines. Are they spool gun compatible? While I think technology is wonderful (when it works) technology is not something that I play well with. Read bad JuJu! Any thoughts? TIA

I have the 255 with a prince xl spool gun. The setup couldn't be better, both guns hot all the time, just turn on the gas bottle for the one you want. It's just shy of being able to spray arc as far as power. I run straight co2, always have, even in the bodyshop. Spatters a bit more but you can run hotter with deeper penetration. Wouldn't want any other welder. I've done ultra thin aluminum boats, 1/4 aluminum plate. Built a addition to the house that is a engineered moment frame running intersheid.

Hobbytime, thx for your input, not interested in anything but Lincoln.
Broccoli1, asking price is within $50 of each other, ~$1200
Shootist2, which 255 do you have.
Guys, I am curious about the specific two welders in my post, they are within my budget and I like them for the stated reasons, still looking for personal experience with these two welders, and why you prefer them OR I should avoid them. Thx.

Wirematic is older, quite a bit. Not exactly sure when they stopped making those. I think 1997

The Powermig is the new kid but still an older model (could be 2010) as they are on the 256 designation.

Powermig has the Diamond core technology which makes the arc "better" just smoother .

My vote is the Powermig. Just note that the Spoolgun for it is pricey if buying new.

i have had a power mig 255 for 14 years or so and it has never had trouble. i run about 100 pounds of wire through it every year and its a great machine and easy to adjust and it does weld nice.
get one if you can, they are handy and have plenty of power

Powermig 255 (any version) over wirematic The wirematic was Lincoln's answer to Miller's 250 (One that replaced the MM-200) Did not go well for either company..

Thx, all! You have confirmed my thoughts for a Lincoln 240 VAC MIG welder.
