    Lifetime warranty drill bits

Tool dealer sold me a set. 29 piece up to 1/2 and gave me a lifetime warranty... said no matter how or why, if it wont drill, "I'll replace it"
Looked up the item in the catalog and it does say lifetime
I tested them, work pretty good and then i got mean to one of them... put it through a leaf spring.
It did survive but it was pretty well worn on the cutting edge...
Walked on the truck the next week and handed it to him, he opened a bin and pulled a brand new one out and handed it to me...no questions asked Name: 20171108_150643.jpg

Mac tools? Only one I know of with lifetime warranty. I have used a lot better bits, but hard to beat the warranty, especially if your dealer is cool.

Is the warranty just if it's dull? I hope for their sake the lifetime warranty doesn't include broken bits. I've never been able to sharpen bits to even close to as good as when they were new. If I had a deal like that around here, I'd happily buy into it.

    They are from mac tools.
They claim no matter how or why ot fails, they will replace it
    They also warranty broken bits
There is an offroad/performance shop up the road a bit, and i do know the owner there, they usually break 1 or 2 bits a week and never had any trouble with getting them replaced.
I do have some that cut a little better in some cases but for the money, these are hard to beat.
I caught these on sale for 229 if i remember correctly. I think regular retail is about 100 more

Hmm kind of steep but if you go through bits left and right I can see the bits paying for them selves over the coarse of a few years. Would be good for guys cutting a lot of hardened metals.

At those prices the cost to replace bits is factored in to the price. The company charges more than comparable bits would cost. Even if you return way too many bits they get the chance for more face time to sell you something else. It's all about the art of the deal.

BTW I got a bit sharpener that can make bits sharper than new if I want to do so. It uses a jig on a belt sander. I could run 2000 grit if I wanted to. Even with only 320 grit sharp as ever. Only normal points, not split points. The problem is not easy to do for smaller bits, but those bigger than about 0.2" can be done easily.

Me too ! Now I have one of those harbor freight free with purchase magnetic strips by my drill press. Really saves time with the most used ones right there. You can stick your Chuck key to it too.
I have my Chuck key on a recycled coiled shaver cord.

    Re: Lifetime warranty drill bits

I have had these bits for about 2 months now.
No breaks, none even dulled yet really
But yesterday, our mac man tells us " well, im out as of December 1st"
I liked this one better than most but im kinda starting to think that its a pretty schitty thing to sell 2 of us at the shop these then tell us yesterday that he's quitting..
No idea when or if someone will pick up his regional customers.
He says that we can send them in for warranty, but who has time for that??

That sucks, my Mac dealer has been around for over 10 years. Previous ones came and went. That's the thing will tool truck brands, they are only as good as the dealer you have. Matco seems to be the most questionable by me, but that's the way it goes.

    Re: Lifetime warranty drill bits

Years ago I bought a set of Bad Dog Bits. Lifetime warranty and they claim you can drill any material, steel, wood, tile, concrete. I think the set was about $80 at a home show. They actually held up pretty well for concrete, in fact I used the 1/2" one for hundreds of lag shields over the years. But then with a hammer drill you can just about drill concrete block with a chunk of rebar. For steel they aren't so great. At the home show demo the guy would chuck one up and plow it thru a brake rotor a few times, then put it back in the box and sell it to the next buyer, then chuck up a fresh one out of a new box and drill 3 or 4 more holes in the rotor. So he always used a fresh bit for the demo. Thinking back I should have asked him, in front of the crowd, why didn't he use the same one all day if they were so great? Later I learned that brake rotors actually drill pretty easily. I see they are still around but to get them replaced you have to mail them back with $2.50 for the first bit and $1.00 for each additional bit along with the serial number off the original box. Hmmmmm, do I mail back my 1/2" for $2.50 plus postage or just go buy a Bosch? hmmm....

Holy crap. What are the drill bits made from, gold? I can't believe people still buy off tool trucks... $229 for an index with $29 worth of drills. Learn to sharpen you bits, all you need is a bench grinder and 2 nuts. Or a belt sander, or your 4 1/2" grinder.

I was thinking about it earlier today. Any one could clamp a piece of angle iron at the correct angle on the tool rest of the bench grinder/belt sander and have the perfect angle ready to grind just by resting the drill on the angle iron.

Yes it really is that easy. Bits smaller than 1/8 are just disposable basically as I usually snap them in half before I dull them. Even so a Drill Doctor will sharpen even the tiny drills. Sharpening a drill should be a basic task to learm, right along with how to use and clean a file.

How do you clean a file? I use a wire brush.

I scrape the file along the end of a cut piece of copper pipe (brass works even better). Wire file cards dull files.

A wire brush will dull the file. A wire card (specialized wire brush) is for cleaning very coarse files. Brass wire for cleaning fine files, or a brush.
