    Custom mini torch

I like the Victor 100 series torches but every now and then I want a shorter one for getting in tight spaces. So today I took a cheap Victor clone and chopped it down so it's body is 1/2 the length of a standard one. The trickiest part is that there is a brass tube in the center of the handle to keep the oxygen and acetylene separate until they reach the tip. They can't mix in the handle becUse that could lead to a flash back. So the tube abd the body of the torch have to be cut down precisely the same amount so that everything seals correctly.

    Very carefully...

    (Sorry I couldn't resist)
I disassembled torch body and cut the inner and outer tube separately. Then I soldered the inner tube and the outer tube and finally reassembled the torch. I used a stop block on the bandsaw to make sure both tube were cut down the same amount.

Here's a video of me building the thing:

Very cool idea. Hmmm...I have a spare Victor 100...hmmm.

(I also have a Meco Midget, though, when I need to get into tight spots.)

ESAB ad description of my torch claims it
    to have better balance.
I've wondered how much of an issue torch "balance"
    really is.
