Responsible for the management, planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling of welding engineers, welding technicians, and welding engineering functions as related to the fabrication of NOG components. Responsible for ensuring overall quality of NOG product welds through optimum blend of weld techniques and equipment.
Coordinates and controls welding engineers' job functions to provide uniform, coordinated direction of the company's short and long range goals.
Ensures welding processes and equipment are adequate to produce high quality welds; works with Manufacturing and Facilities to resolve equipment/parameter problems.
Reviews proposals to assure that scheduler, technical, and prices commitments are favorable and are within NOG's capability. Identifies potential risks.
Prepares technical welding related comments to documents referenced in proposals.
Negotiates welding related technical requirements at proposal state and throughout contract term.
Establishes weld wire quantity and special qualification requirements for each proposal and for NOG contracts.
Reviews engineering drawings to assure they provide for economic fabrication of highest quality.
Specifies welding processes and procedures to be employed through preparation of weld date sheets in accordance with contract requirements. Initiates welding procedure qualifications to support contract requirements.
Provides technical weld engineering support for shop welding surveillance personnel for all welding processes.
Establishes, analyzes, and negotiates programs or technical changes that result from customer inquiries of internal recommendations. Resolves customer concerns with respect to procedure qualifications and weld data sheets.
Initiates action for fabrication and testing of welding procedure qualifications.
Evaluates welding performance through analysis of the Weld Defect Report. Initiates necessary corrective action after considering economic, scheduler, and quality impact.
Provides technical support to the shop foremen responsible for removing and repairing weld defects found by non-destructive testing.
Interprets the requirements of NAVShips 250-1500-1, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and customer specifications related to welding assure that all fabrication meets contract requirements.
Provides technical justification for DSR's (Degradation of Specification Requirements) and RAR's (Repair Approval Requests) on all contracts.
Participate in planning and evaluating welding research and development.
Responds to shop welding and welding metallurgical problems to effectively resolve the problem and yet maintain work within the bounds of the company's contractual and obligations.
Provides necessary training to manufacturing welding personnel.
Job Requirements :
Bachelor Science Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or other engineering field.
5 years minimum of experience in the pressure vessel field or equivalent training in the heavy equipment or construction field.
