Re: My dream shop :)

ironheart_ram,
any place that I can work is a dream, I'm not very concerned with cleaning up- as much as the work I produce.

shops a mess, typical of me but the piece came out OK.
7'4" tall slab of maple 4" thick 5' wide with all four grain figures in one piece. Not metal- but not a clean shop either.

I know that a clean shop makes for nice working conditions but I'm always just focused on the work, I clean up in the spring and the fall but not so often the rest of the year!

The shop also makes a little metal work now and then.

This 25' offshore, walkaround is about to get the cabin and to celebrate we cleaned the shop!

But its usually kind of focused on the work, I'm just not a very good house keeper. I know I should but I would rather just work on the 'main thing'. [character flaw I'm pretty sure.]

I 'know I should' but I always seem to find something more interesting to do, so I clean up when I can't find things but I got a good memory for tool location so ... well you can see I'm not winning any house keeping awards!

Cheers,
Kevin Morin

Re: My dream shop :)

Hard for me to resist this kind of thread. I spent a lot of time getting my little garage to where it could be useful as a shop that I could mess up and then get back to clean in a short amount of time.

Since I'm just a weekender when it comes to fabrication, carpentry and car work, I can keep it clean more often than it's a mess.

It's clean for the pictures, at least.

But it gets messy, for long stretches:

Ten days ago, I learned how to make a website and made one for the garage. So if you want to take a little tour...

Re: My dream shop :)

Wow, great setup....in floor lift is very well thought out and great idea. However, IMHO there is defintely something very wrong with a shop that every horizontal surface is free of clutter lol. We are going to make all our new welding/fab tables with an arched top so nothing can be set on them.....

Thanks!
Coupebuilder, you can see some of it in the last picture. But even with 10 work benches in a 20x22 garage, every surface was completely covered by the time that engine rebuild (and suspension refresh) was done. Still, the place cleaned up in an hour or so. Everything's got a designated place.

It's odd. In the rest of my life, there's a perpetual state of messiness -- lots of projects, a toddler and a newborn, not enough storage space, not enough time in the day; you just can't fight it all and win. But I usually keep the garage pretty clean. It's the one small victory.

TIMES 2 ! Absolute awesome JACK. If your garage looks like this I can't imagine what the inside of your house is like. I bet you have a rack for each toothpick ! You inspire me to get mine clean but it doesn't last.

Re: My dream shop :)

All very cool.

I believe MikeGyver's pic is one of the Tustin CA hangars. Originally set up for dirigibles but then used as MCAS Tustin. A Marine helo base. You could fly CH-47s in and out of them like putting your car in the garage.

Jack O. Very nice.
