Metal Cutting Circular Saw
Has anyone used the HF version of this? I have used the Evolution and Milwaukee saws and liked how well they worked but I am thinking abouot getting a lower end version for things around the house.
Thanks |

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
got one from Northern tool. It works well. I don't have any thing to compare it to, however. I have had no problems. I have used it to make channel out of tubing and sliced 1/8" slivers. I used it on some ashpalt once, slice easily though too slow however. Northern's saw has an odd sized arbor.

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
$100 on the HF web site, but tomorrow it will be $75 so I'm going to pick up a few. I had been eyeing the horizontal vertical metal band saw, but those things are sooooo slow. For production work like we do I think the cold cut saws are faster/better.
In fact I don't even know what I would use a band saw for? Maybe if you had to notch some metal and wanted slow control??? |

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
Got my second one off eBay, new, but dead in box for $10 delivered. Bought it because it was cheaper than buying a new blade for the first one. Unwrapped the package, pulled out the electrical meter and found the fault was in the plug. Swapped it out and now have a second saw sitting on the shelf.
As far as quality, it gets the job done. One of numerous cutting options. I don't particularly care to use the darned things as metal splinters/chips seem to get spit out of the saw from every pore...still tracking aluminum chips into the house several months after the last time I used the darned thing! Worth the bucks if you can get one cheap enough.

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
Is this a saw that looks like a hand held wood cutting saw?
If it is, I used a Panasonic version that had a nice guard. Then my neighbor bought a blade for his "Skil-Saw", I tried it to cut some long strips of plate not realizing you need the real metal saw because of the chips flying everywhere. Been thinking about buying one for around the house/garage too? |

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
Same price and more than likely better quality.

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
Hi. I bought one a few weeks ago and used it to cut 16 pieces of 2x2x1/8" square tube. It cut perfectly. Minimal sparks, took about 5 seconds per cut. Handled like a circular saw going through a 2x4.
Much better than grinder, cut-off or chop saw. No problems whatsoever. Good luck. |

Re: Metal Cutting Circular Saw
While going to purchase a blade for the Northern Saw, I ran into a new 7" steel max circ. saw for close to price of a new blade, it had a new blade on it, too.
It is so much quieter than the northern saw and extremely easy to change the blade. It also feel more powerful. BTW this thread is old. |
