solderer??

New here, put up my first reply, and noticed I'm a solderer. Welding for about 25 years, yet I get the "solderer" rank...egads. Oh well, looks to be a good place to give and take knowledge.

Re: solderer??

You aren't the first, nor the last to bring this up. I dont think soldering should be taken as a derogatory term. How many weldors here have ever removed the top or bottom tank of a brass radiator, rodded the tubes and replaced said tank w/o a few leaks??? I have and, yes, I had the leaks, so I think solderer could be classed right up there w/ pressure vessel weldors. So just keep postin' and you'll graduate up to something requiring less skill, like a foreman.

Re: solderer??

I'm a solderer and proud of it. Here's one of the boards I used to build by hand. No magnifying glass, no special equipment, and 90% of them would work on initial power up without troubleshooting (and 100% of them worked before I shipped them ).

I don't think solderer is derogatory at all.

{and yes, I know we're talking a different type of "solderer here", but it's all in good fun}

If they really wanted a newbie title around here, it should be "Hot Glue Artist". After all, isn't a welder just a metal hot glue gun?

With some first posts I've seen, duct tape artist would be more fitting. Some people shouldn't be left around something as hot and dangerous as a hot glue gun.
Maybe 5 posts get you up to crazy glue, and 10 gets you to hot glue artist, before solderer.

Re: solderer??

Ok dude, you got me on that one. My thumbs are way too fat to solder stuff that small.

My favorite welding task, idiot insisted I weld a piece of stainless to drywall. I stuck it up there, used silicone and my finger to make a "welded apperance", painted it before he could see it.

Re: solderer??

Hi Ya masher and Welcome to the Welding Web Family. Certainly nothing wrong with being a solderer! I know I couldn't deal with trying to so those soldering joints! Way to small for me. As for the title solderer its just that just a title reflecting the number of posts you have made since you joined the Welding Web.
