Millermatic 250MP

I have found a guy who wants to trade a MM250MP for a small trailer I have made.... I was wondering if anything has one or has used one in production. I see it has some kinda microprocessor and the ability to program all kinds of settings. He bought it new and is a hobbiest so it has had light use... One of my concerns is....is that MP just a ticking timebomb? Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Millermatic 250MP

Go to miller's web site with the serial number and down load the owner's manual and read it.
See if it is a welder you even want to have. And above all things have the guy show you how to set it up and let you weld with it. All electronic equipment are ticking time bombs. some just have faster clocks than the others, That said. The welder was designed for light industrial use, so in a home shop it should last a long time. Just feed it clean spike free line power and it and all welder will last longer. A transient suppressor on your shop power will help. They are a large version of what your computer is plugged into and can be hard wired into your sub panel.

Re: Millermatic 250MP

I have had one for over 12 years and it has been great until recently, now I am having a problem.
The machine was way ahead of its time. The gun has a switch on it that can be used for 2 different settings or wire speed or to increase voltage. I use it for different settings. Easy to change without ever lifting you head up. It is more complicated than the Millermatic 250 but if you take a little time to learn the display it is a sweet machine.
Problem is now they discontinued the gun but you can still use the regular gun.
I have also read that if the micro processor goes out you can replace it with the standard knobs (confirm that with a service center).
It is/was a great machine but I think they only built them between '92 - '96 so you know it is at least 15 years old.

I think I heard that to. There is supposed to be a way to change the front panel to a plain 250.
