Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

Am using a 76 Piece Wrench Organizer, Item #46884, from Harbor Freight in my Harbor Freight Tool Box. It is in the back of the bed near the tail gate and the tools bounce around. Does anyone have any good ideas on how the keep the wrenches in place cause I hate reorganizing all the time.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

Here's my wrench drawer. The only problem is you have to be careful not to pull the drawer all the way out when you get some of the bigger wrenches. It would of worked better one slot down but due to slight variations in drawer sizes I can't just swap drawers because that one sticks when closed if I put it one slot down.

The plastic clip set is Ace brand wrenches bought on sale for cheap. I like it better than any other clips I've used but it's not as universal as some others. I cut the handle and extra plastic off the clip so it wouldn't take up so much room in the drawer. Everything over 3/4" goes in the home made slots with some extra wrenches thrown in the corner.

For the rest of the pics of my truck scroll down about half way here.

irish fixit Thank you for your input. Did you weld those vertical pieces between the wrenches? Also, enjoyed your gen pole ideas on your truck.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

You're welcome.

Yes those are just pieces of cold rolled I tacked into the drawer. Those top drawers are made from some old shelving that came out of the Levi factory in Amarillo. They looked like 12" wide purlin before I hammered the edges down. I think it's something like 16ga metal.

The bottom drawers I added later after taking out one large drawer. I made them out of 14ga with my box and pan brake.

I originally made those tool boxes for my dad and then ended up buying the truck from him. I have different tool box needs than he does.

That truck isn't to bad to work out of but it lacks a little in bulk storage space. I've got it packed to the gills and I don't think she'll take any more. I'm in the process of getting things together to build a new truck. I've got most of the pieces just have to get the time to put them together.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

just laying a piece of padding on top will stop most of the bouncing. I used to have a lot of stuff always bouncing off the top shelves of my service van, now I keep my drop cloths rolled up and crammed between the roof and the top shelf, holds stuff down pretty good.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

Here is the solution as suggested by irish fixit and bigb:
Was cleaning a 1000 gallon heating tank for an environmental client in Indianapolis. He was standing around asking stupid questions so I sent him to Advance Auto for oil soak. He came back with this: the first picture. The last picture will have up right pieces welding in place like irish fixit drawer in this thread as this is my 3/4 and large wrench drawer. Thank you all.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

I saw this on another forum, thought it could work with any tools:

Start with one of these:-

...and one of these...

....some of your treasured tools and instruments..

....covered with a bit of cloth from the t-shirt..

...shake up a can of this...

...lay it on them..

...lay some newspaper over it...

....pat it down and squish it around to fill any voids...

...put a board over it all and weight it down well to stop foam expanding more..

....get a good night's sleep and in the morning..

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

During a short period of time when I was hauling a 300 lb tool chest to and from work in the back of my vehicle, I had the same problem. I just picked a couple heavy-duty magnetic hooks and stuck 'em in the wrench drawer at each end of the wrench organizer, then used some of those miniature bunjee straps from the bargain bin at the hardware store.

Re: Wrench Organizer in Tool Box

I have the SnapOn wrench holders that are made of a plastic similar to motorcycle plastic that have a friction fit on the wrenches and are available in a reverse pattern also.
