Hey Sticky - haven't been on WW too much - too busy! I see my weight guess on Toz's truck was low. More tools in there than I thought! Hope you got what you were looking for since I wasn't able to "help" you....

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

I think they look good too. I have a buddy, he thinks I should have them wider apart so you can see more of the stack out to the side....I am unsure, I think I like them like this, not to blatant like some of the newer diesel trucks.

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

Well first things first. I think the restoration of the truck should come before wether it gets stacks. I also suspect that the restoration may take a good bit more time than you think (it frequently does). BUT my first impression was NO but perhaps if the the rest of the job is well done you will be able to pull it all together. Ps I've done this kind of resto AND I hope you finish it (many folks don't) it's a good looker.

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

Those cabs fit reasonably well over a much later frame, so if you get a 1973-87 C-30 chassis you can (almost) set the cab right on it.

You'd need to u-joint the steering column (we wanted the stock wheel so we did) or come up with a different column. I don't have any pics of the one I did many years ago on a C-10 chassis but it ain't hard.

Better drivetrain with better brakes (there's a REASON old time brake shops were often not too far from the bottom of steep grades!) will make it much nicer to drive.

You could also transplant the whole subframe from a C-30 and throw a 14-bolt dually axle (they are different from SRW trucks) under the rear. Plenty of cheap donors out there and since you weld it would be a breeze.

A '73-79 brake pedal mount is VERY close and will clear the stock dash with some trimming, and that can get you conventional power or Hydro-Boost brakes.

Welding rigs are heavy and old-school trucks are pretty but they don't stop very well.

No on the stacks. Stacks jumped the shark big time.

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

It was meticulously maintained as its a fire truck so it only needs a few basic things. Needs wiring help, tie rods ends and a seat, and a door pin, thats about it, everything else works and great!

No Stacks, especially if they aren't hooked up and just for show.

Sidepipes are cool but not in Saskatchewan, too much snow. I think the stacks are the titties (.Y.)

Comments like yours are why I like rat rods.........basically a middle finger to those that are weiners lol

No worries, I will have a shiny new plate for it when I licence it, but then again maybe I will keep it just for you ahahaha. I take it you're from the city and never seen a village of 350 people's firetruck from 1970.

Nice rig. I like the way the decals raise with the body line on the doors.
