Hobart TR-250HF

I have a Hobart TR-250HF, Spec# 6025-1. I have had an issue with no current control. Have tracked the problem down to the control transformer. Where can i purchase one? or does anyone have a broken down welder that they are willing to salvage?

I have a manual for the spec #6026-1, which is almost the same. Part number for the 6026-1 spec number is 368265.

When i test the existing control transformer, the 120 volt taps are working, but I do not get any voltage on the 30v taps, which feed the current control circuits.

last option is to install an aftermarket 120v to 30v control transformer. But didn't find one rated at 15 amps at 30v. Anyone know where I can get one?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Re: Hobart TR-250HF

Have your favorite welding supply store check with thermal arc and see if they have any left.
If all gone, go to an industrial electrical supply house and ask for a machine control transformer with your spects.
But first try to measure the transformer output close as you can get to it. Make sure you don't have an open connection between the transformer and the control circuits.
If the 30 volt winding opened up in the transformer, make sure you find the cause.
Shorted diodes or worse a shorted reactor.
Then best was to test the reactor is to use a variable transformer, measure the current in the control circuit as you go from 0 volts to 30 volts. make sure the current does not exceed the fuse rating.
or you can connect directly to the reactor with a car battery or battery charger.
To get 24 volts 2 batteries is series will work.
High current at low voltage would indicate a shorted control coil and a possible cause to the control transformer failure.
Most reactors only draw around 6amps max at any time.
